The Series has been Cancled

Please note the upcoming series has been cancled and we are working on a possible return.  We will keep everyone posted.

RD #1 has been moved to EHZ on March 13th

Due to weather we are cancling RD #1 at Outacontrol. The series will now start at EHZ on March 13th and the schedule will remain intact from there. The series will still be 4 races and most likely the series will now end at Outacontrol. This will push our final race to the rainy season so the final race start time will be 10 AM. I will have everything posted this weekend. Sorry but with the weather, the Daytona 500 and Valentines day we just couldnt compete.

The Finale … Round #4 at Outacontrol

The final race was upon us.  Time to put your money where your mouth is (Except Jimmy no one has that much money). After 3 races at 3 unique tracks we arrived at Outacontrol in Ocoee to yet another completely different racing surface then what we have been use to. Mother nature obviously doesnt like this group of rowdy short course racers as just like in ROund #1 she showered us with Love. This race would come down to who could adapt to the wet conditions.  It would also test the nerves of the stock racers as the series really tighten’d up at Farmers; with Chad Cason, Jimmie Cooper and Pete Payned finishin 1,2,3 and applying a ton of pressure to season long points leader Tyler Noel. How would it all shake out?

 Stock Qualifying:

Chad Cason would take the first round, Mike Mcarson would claim round two and Malcolm Stewart would Take Round three and Overall TQ.  Qualifying would have huge points implications as Jimmie Cooper, Pete Payne and Kyle Paquette would fail to earn A main spots on time and would have to bump up!

 Mod Qualifying:

Due to the fact that I was in this race I dont really remember how it went. All I know is that I couldnt catch Tyler Noel or Ariel. They were on rails all day! Tyler would eventually take the TQ and earn that very special extra bonus point.

Stock Mains:

The Grid was set and the tone sounded. That tone obviously meant for everyone to crash into eachother and allow Chad and Tyler get away clean. Chad would take huge advantage of this Big time and lead from tone to tone. Malcom would eventually get clear from traffic and attempt to make a charge but by time he made it out of traffic Chad had already mounted a 10 second lead and was cruising.  David Davis a new comer to Short Course Racing would grind his was to a top three finish.

Mod Mains:

Again since I was in this race and having radio problems I really didnt get to see much of this race. However I did catch the tail end and saw Tyler Noel cruis around for the win, followed by Mike McCarson (watch out for him next season) and Ariel. David Davis missed another podium by 1 second!

I would like to thank Andy, Laura, Pete and the whole Outacontrol Crew. For the weather we had those guys did a whale of a Job getting the track ready. I would also like to personally thank Andy for all the awards he donated over the series. Thanks Andy.

Round 2 Race Report- Ocala RC Car Club

DSCF3309The Short Course King series made its way to the Ocala RC Car Club(ORCCC.org) for the second stop on this whirlwind tour of the best short course tracks in the state of Florida. Over the years so many of the tracks have been catering to the larger 1/8th vehicles, with huge jumps, random obstacles in the track that toss the cars around violently, option lanes, stutter bumps, etc. It is refreshing to race your car around a track, where the jumps and elevation changes are a fair test of driving skill, and the racers actually get to race each other on the track, rather than see who can survive the run with the fewest crashes.

The track crew in Ocala did an excellent job with this track layout. The footprint of the Ocala track is one of the larger in the state, but they have left a 12’ buffer zone all around the perimeter of the track for this layout, reducing the length be about 30’ and the depth by 12-15’. This left us with a track about 100 x 55’ – the size a 1/10th scale track used to be just a few years ago. Coming down the straightaway, drivers are funneled into a high-speed uphill switchback taking you all the way to the back of the track, from there a left hander into a double roller with a tight carousel leading into a tricky double apex section with and elevated entrance and exit from the section. This section of the track provided for some great racing with the full-fendered trucks. From the double apex, you find a long sweeper headed to a table top/roller, another carousel around to the right, leading the drivers back uphill to an elevated 180 on a plateau. Coming down the hill from the 180, the drivers are slowed back down immediately with a tricky side-hill off camber right-hander, leading to a small hop double section leading back onto the straightaway. Fast lap time of the event was in the high 28’s for Mod, and high 29’s for stock.

The Ocala club general holds their club racing on Saturday afternoons, so they graciously moved their club racing to Friday night in order to accommodate the Short Course King series event. Many drivers made their way up on Friday Read the rest of this entry »
